How we rate NFL betting sites
Eight seasons of betting the NFL from a UK timezone taught us which of these actually matter. These are the most important factors in our sportsbook reviews.
NFL odds and margin
The single most important factor in any sports betting decision. A -110 line on both sides of a spread is a 4.5% margin; UK books routinely price the same markets at 6% or worse. Over a football season that gap costs more than any welcome bonus is worth.
Market depth
How many NFL betting markets per game, and do they cover the Thursday and Monday games as thoroughly as the Sunday ones. A sportsbook that prices 300 markets on Chiefs games and 40 on Saints games isn't much good if the Saints are your team.
Live NFL betting
NFL is a stop-start sport with 60 to 70 possessions across two teams, which makes live betting far better than it is on football. We check whether prices update fast enough between plays and whether the book suspends markets for half the game.

Money line
Which team wins the game outright. UK books often label this "match result" or "to win". No draw option in the NFL beyond a rare tie, which most sportsbooks void or settle as a push.
Point spreads
The handicap. A -6.5 spread means that team must win by seven or more. Point spreads exist to make a lopsided matchup a near-coinflip, which is why the underdog price sits close to evens on almost every game.
Totals
Over or under the combined points scored by both teams. Typically lands between 38 and 50 points in the modern NFL.
Player props
Prop bets on individual performances rather than team scores. Passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, anytime touchdown scorer. A Saquon Barkley rushing yards line is a player prop; so is how many completions a quarterback throws.
Same game parlays and Bet Builder
Americans call them same game parlays. UK bookmakers call the same game parlays feature a Bet Builder, and it does the same job: combine multiple bets from one game into one price.
Correlated legs get priced down, so a builder that stacks a team to win with its quarterback throwing three touchdowns won't pay what the raw multiplication suggests.
Multi-game parlays
Combining multiple games into an accumulator. Parlays are fun, high margin, and the reason sportsbooks push them so hard. Two-team parlays are defensible; eight-team parlays are lottery tickets.
Futures
Season-long bets: Super Bowl winner, conference and division winners, Super Bowl MVP, regular season win totals.
Futures prices move all season, so an early bet on the Bills or the Lions can look very different by Week 10.
Novelty bets
Coin toss, Gatorade colour, anthem length. A Super Bowl thing almost exclusively. Fun bets rather than value bets, and the margins are horrible.
American odds, fractional and decimal
NFL odds are quoted three ways and UK bettors need at least two of them.
Negative odds
A minus number is the favourite, and shows what you must stake to win £100.
-150 means £150 returns £100 profit — 4/6 fractional, 1.67 decimal.
Positive odds
A plus number is the underdog, and shows what £100 returns.
+180 means £100 wins £180 — 9/5 fractional, 2.80 decimal.
Every US preview, model and podcast quotes American odds. Every UK sportsbook quotes fractional or decimal. If you read American analysis and bet with British books, you'll be converting all season, so learn the two conversions above and you're done.
Can UK bettors use FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars or Fanatics?
No, and it's worth explaining why properly because a lot of UK-facing content gets this wrong.
Why the big US sportsbooks are closed to you
FanDuel Sportsbook, Caesars, Fanatics Sportsbook and the rest of the big US betting apps are licensed state by state — New Jersey, West Virginia, Rhode Island and so on — with geolocation that checks you're physically inside the state when you place a bet. A UK address and a UK card won't pass. FanDuel's UK-facing business is a different company on a UKGC licence.
"Bonus bets" and what they mean here
Bonus bets are the American name for what UK books call free bets: stake-not-returned tokens, usually with minimum odds attached. If Fanatics Sportsbook or a rival is offering "$1,000 in bonus bets" on your first bets, the UK equivalent on our free bets page is the same mechanic with a different label.

Eighteen weeks, plus playoffs, plus a Super Bowl. That's a lot of games, a lot of bets and a lot of chances to gamble more than you meant to.
Set a weekly stake before you start betting in Week 1 and treat futures as a separate pot. Other bettors ring-fence a season-long futures pot and never touch it.
Which teams UK bettors follow
There's a clear pattern in what UK customers bet. The Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills carry the most money on any given weekend, with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings not far behind.
