New betting app or new betting site — what's the difference?

In practice, very little. A "new betting app" is simply a new bookmaker's mobile product: almost every operator that has launched in the UK in the last few years is mobile-first, with the app (or mobile web app) as the main way customers bet. If a brand above appeals, check its review for how the mobile experience holds up — and note that some newer brands run excellent mobile sites rather than separate App Store downloads, which works identically for claiming offers.

How to download a new betting app safely

Three rules keep you safe with any new betting app:

1. Only install from the official App Store or Google Play, or from a link on the bookmaker's own website — never from an ad or a third-party APK site.

2. Check the developer name matches the operator. Betting apps are usually published under the operating company rather than the brand name — the safety check below shows you how to match it against the UKGC register.

3. Claim the welcome offer through the site first if in doubt. Sign-up offers on this page work whether you register in the app or in the browser — the account is the same.

Why new betting apps have bigger offers

A new bookmaker's hardest job is getting a first deposit from punters who already have accounts elsewhere — so launch-period welcome offers tend to be more generous than the established brands'. That generosity doesn't make an operator trustworthy on its own, which is why every listing here starts with the UKGC licence check, not the offer size.

How to Check a New Betting App Is Legitimate

A big welcome offer tells you nothing about whether a site is safe to deposit with. These five checks do, and they take about five minutes in total:

  1. Find the UKGC licence number in the footer. Every operator legally serving UK customers must display one — usually a five-digit number near the Gambling Commission logo. No number, no deposit.
  2. Look the number up on the official register. Search the UKGC public register and confirm the licence exists and its status is Active — not surrendered, suspended or revoked.
  3. Match the operator name. The register lists the operating company, which is often not the brand name. Check it matches the company named in the site's own terms and on the deposit page — a mismatch means you don't actually know who's taking your money.
  4. Confirm GAMSTOP is stated. Participation in GAMSTOP is mandatory for every UKGC-licensed online operator. It's normally mentioned in the footer or on the safer-gambling page; its absence on a UK-facing site is a red flag.
  5. Find the complaints and ADR route. Licensed operators must publish a complaints procedure with a free independent dispute resolver at the end of it (commonly IBAS or eCOGRA). If you can't find it before depositing, you won't find it during a dispute.

New App Safety Check

Check 1 of 5

Is there a UKGC licence number in the site footer?

18+ · This checklist covers licensing basics, not offer quality — a legitimate site can still have a poor-value offer. Please gamble responsibly · BeGambleAware.org

Worked example: talkSPORT BET

Take talkSPORT BET, which we list. Its footer carries licence number 39576 — click it and you're on the official register entry. Notice the entry isn't under “talkSPORT BET” — it's under the operating company, BV Gaming Limited. That's normal for apps too: the App Store or Google Play developer name should match the company on the UKGC register and in the app's own terms. From there, GAMSTOP and the complaints route are in the site footer's safer-gambling and terms links — five minutes, five ticks. Our talkSPORT BET review links the same register entry, because we run this exact check on every operator before listing them.
