How it works
Your stake is split into two equal parts. The win part pays out at full odds only if your selection wins outright. The place part pays out at a fraction of those odds if your selection finishes inside the each-way places — whether or not it actually won.
FAQs
- What does 'each way' mean?
- An each-way bet splits your stake in two equal halves: one backs your selection to win, the other backs it to place (finish within the each-way places, e.g. top 3 or top 4). A '£5 each way' bet costs £10 total.
- What are place terms?
- The fraction of the win odds paid out on the place part — commonly 1/4 or 1/5 odds for the standard number of places, though bookmakers sometimes offer better terms (1/4 odds, extra places) for big events.
