About William Hill

Read more in our William Hill Review

William Hill is one of the oldest known bookmakers in the UK. It was originally founded back in 1934 but it had a completely different set up back then. To start with, William Hill was a betting service that allowed bettors to put down money on events vis the post or telephone. However, back then, gambling with real money was illegal in the UK, so everything was more underground than these days. However, William Hill was the very first bookmaker to come up with fixed odds betting. What’s more, another first it boasts is becoming the very first bookie that was listed on the London Stock Exchange.

In the year 2000, it launched its very own tax-free betting service. From then on, it just saw growth. It expanded even further into becoming an online casino and signed a deal with UK casino giants, Playtech, which is one of the biggest casino software providers in the world. Further to this, is introduced poker to its betting mix – also powered by Playtech. Now the company runs its poker through the iPoker network.

These days, William Hill boasts a huge number of sports, thousands of markets and offers a plenty. It has a reputation that makes it trustworthy and even after all this time, it is one of the go-to betting sites in the UK. It is licensed by the UKGC – the industry standard.

In our William Hill review here at MaxFreeBets, we will be looking at every area of the William Hill betting site. We’ll obviously be looking at all the sports and markets on offer. However, we’ll be looking at more than that. We’ll be checking out the complete user experience. Areas we’ll explore include the William Hill promotions and offers, betting features available. Then we’ll check out the payment methods, customer service, live betting and live streaming as well as check out how secure and trustworthy the site is.

Overview of Our Experience at William Hill

This is William Hill; it has been a popular bookmaker for a long time and for good reason. This was clear when we entered the site. To be honest, when opening the site, we found it to look a little cluttered, but that is because it has so much to offer. It took us a little time to see exactly where things were, but once we got the hang of it, it was worth it. There was so much on offer – and lots of William Hill specials which was fantastic. Aside from cluttered, it was a great site, with lots of offers and more sports and markets than you can image. Our only criticism is that it is a victim of its own success – with so much going on!

The William Hill Welcome Offer

New players only | Min deposit £10 using code P30 | Min odds 1/2 (1.50) | Free bets paid as 2 x £15/€15 (30 days expiry) | Payment method/player/country restrictions apply

As soon as you have opened up your account, you will then be eligible to claim your William Hill sign up offer. The current William Hill welcome bonus is 2 x £15 bets when you make your first deposit of £10 or more on a bet with odds of 1/2 or more. This is a pretty decent welcome offer in terms of the amount, but we also checked the terms and conditions as well, which include the following:

  • If making an each-way bet, only the win part of the bet counts
  • It is not available if you make your first deposit with Neteller, PayPal, Skrill, Paysafecard or Envoy.
  • There are geographical restrictions. This is only available for punters in UK, ROI, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
  • Free bets stake not refunded as part of settlement of winning free bets
  • You must play your free bet within 30 days of receipt

So, a very decent bonus with pretty reasonable terms and conditions attached.

Other William Hill Offers Include:

  • 2 Clear Bonus
  • Try Again Bonus
  • Cash in My Bet
  • Acca 5 Insurance
  • Your Odds
  • Enhanced Odds

William Hill Licensing, Security and Safety

This is a huge betting company that is available in a number of different countries across the world. As such, it has to go through strict and rigorous procedures to makes sure it is compliant in all countries. The site is licensed by a number of regulatory bodies, Not only is it licensed by Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner in order to be regulated in Europe, but it is also regulated by the UK Gambling Commission. This is the most important license as it means that you can play on the site in the UK. The UKGC is known for being very strict, so you can be sure that the site adheres to the most stringent of rules.

On top of this,  William Hill is an IBAS bookmaker. IBAS (Independent Betting Adjudication Service) is an ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution Service’ which is designed to be impartial in case of any disagreements between the betting site and customer. It is an intermediary service that acts fairly and impartially so any issues are dealt with without prejudice.

In terms of site security, the website protects all data – both personal and financial using top of the range SSL encryption technology, so your data will be kept safe from hackers.

In terms of responsible gambling, William Hill is linked to sites such as Gamblers Anonymous, GambleAware as well as Gambling Therapy. This is important because if you do find that you are having issues with problem gambling, then you will be able to get instant access to help on the William Hill betting site.

The Sports/Markets at William Hill

As mentioned previously, there are a huge number of sports and markets available at William Hill – almost too many in a way.

TennisGreyhoundsCricketAmerican FootballBasketball
DartsBoxingGolfMotor RacingBaseball
VolleyballAustralian RulesBandyBaseballBowls
CyclingFutsalGAA FootballGAA HurlingHandball
Ice HockeyMotorbikesRowingRugby LeagueRugby Union
SnookerUFC/MMAWinter SportsTVSpecials

On top of all the sports, you can also bet on other markets including esports. The current esports available to bet on are CS:GO, League of Legends, Overwatch – OWL, Dota 2 and StarCraft.

If you want to have a little more fun, then you can make bets on TV shows such as Love Island, Dancing on Ice or I’m a Celebrity. You can also bet on current affairs or politics… Royals or members of the cabinet. Generally, if it’s bettable, you can bet on it.

Obviously, with a site like William Hill, you can bet on more than just who wins and who loses. It’s very impressive overall. There is a huge number of markets offered on all sports and fixtures. All you have to do is click on the fixture that you want to bet on, and you’ll be presented with all different betting options that are available. Especially when looking at the biggest sports such as football and horse racing. You’ll be able to enjoy in play and ante-post betting on top leagues such as the Premier League, Champions League and more. You can also access the ‘your odds’ where you can get odds for any market or bet that you want. Basically, if you want to bet on it at William Hill you can. If they have it great, if they don’t, they’ll make it for you.

You can bet in play or on fixtures coming up in the next couple of days. Simply click on the link and see what betting markets are available to you. You’ll see exactly why William Hill has lasted so long in the industry. There are hundreds of markets available for all different sports.

William Hill Live Streaming/In Play Betting

One of William Hill’s biggest selling points is the in-play betting. You can bet in-play on a huge number of sports – especially the main ones like horse racing and football. There are also plenty of in-play betting markets available. As an added bonus, you can even watch your live best in action with the William Hill live streaming service on William Hill TV. Having said that, you can only access the William Hill television service if you have enough money on your Will Hill account or have made a bet on that event.

You do need to be aware that you can live stream all sorts of events and sports – including those outside of the UK. What’s more, you can also live stream commentary in the build-up to the event as well as the live commentary before the main event takes place.

Cash Out Betting

Another very popular feature available at William Hill is the Cash-Out feature. This allows you the opportunity to cut and run if your bet is teetering on the edge of victory or defeat. So, for example, if you bet that the correct score will be 2-1 and it gets to the 80th minute and the score is 2-1, but a player has been sent off and a goal looks likely to be scored, then you can cash out your bet.  This is a great feature on the site that really tests your nerve. So, if you think your bet is just about to lose, get your winnings and go!

William Hill Payment Methods

Well, as you can imagine from such a big site, there are a huge number of payment options available. You can therefore deposit and withdraw your money in the way that suits you the most. You can currently deposit with the following methods:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Neteller
  • Skrill
  • PayPal
  • Maestro
  • iDebit
  • Cheque
  • Bankwire
  • American Express

For players outside of the UK, you can use the following deposit methods

  • UseMyBank
  • CashU
  • Gluepay
  • Teleingreso
  • Bank Link
  • Multibanco
  • EPS
  • eWire
  • Boleto Bancario
  • eKonto
  • Fundsend
  • Speedcard
  • Euteller
  • POLi
  • iDeal
  • Abaqoos
  • Nordea
  • Giropay
  • Sofortuberweisung

All deposits with any methods are instant, so as soon as you make your deposit, you can get going. Furthermore, all deposits are free from fees. The William Hill minimum deposit is £5 – which is pretty low compared to many others. However, if you use some payments including eWallets, the minimum deposit is £10.

Withdrawals

You can withdraw via all the methods available for depositing. However, you need to know that you can only withdraw via the same method you deposited with. If you make a deposit with a bank card, you have to make your withdrawal via the same bank card. This is the same in all bookmakers due to anti-money laundering regulations.

When you withdraw via eWallet, you can get to your money in under a day generally. However, if you withdraw via debit card, then it can take anywhere between 1 to 5 days. Should you withdraw via bank transfer, then it can take a lot longer – between 5 to 10 working days.

Also, be aware that the amount you can withdraw at any one time depends on your method of withdrawal. If you withdraw via Quick Cash, then the withdrawal range is between £10 to £5,000. However, if withdrawing with Visa, MasterCard and Maestro, then you can withdraw between £10 and £250,000.

Currently, you can deposit and withdraw with the following currencies: GBP, USD, CAD, AUD, SEK, EUR, DKK, HKD, DGD, JPY and CHF

William Hill Customer Service

As you would expect from such a renowned betting site, William Hill customer service knows exactly what it is doing when it comes to Customer Service.

There are a few ways to get in touch with the customer service team. To find it, all you have to do is head over to the contact us page and see what your options are.

Firstly, our favourite option, is the live chat. Not only is it super quick, but it is available for you to use 24 hours a day, which is a huge thumbs up. Using the live chat, you can get immediate access to the support team. In our experience, this is the easiest and the quickest way to get any issues resolved. Furthermore, we found all the agents to be polite and helpful.

Another good option available to users is the William Hill phone number, which is available to you if you live in the UK – 0800 3551 3551. As you can see, this is a freephone number, so if you are kept on hold, you won’t need to worry about getting a big phone bill. You can use this number from mobiles as well as landlines. Again, this is a quick and easy method, perfect if you have a difficult issue and want to speak to a person. There are other numbers available to bettors outside of the UK, but these will have costs attached. Just like the live chat, the agents were quick, polite and very knowledgeable.

If your question or worry isn’t as urgent, then you could always have the option of sending the customer service agents an email. Generally, the team will respond in a day or less. Should you choose this method, then you need to make sure that you include your account details in the message, so they can get it sorted asap.

Another helpful section of the site is the FAQ section. This is great if you have a general enquiry such as bonus or account queries – or payment options, something that a number of people might have questions about and isn’t specific to your own situation. This is a great alternative to contacting the William Hill customer service agents.

The Layout of the William Hill Betting Site

First thing is first…. William Hill offers a huge amount of sports and markets, so it’s great if you are looking for something in particular. However, this does mean that it compromises its aesthetic. Because of how much it has, the home page tends to look quite fussy and overcrowded. This can put people off if they are not sure what they are doing and don’t really know how to navigate a betting site.

However, if you are used to sites like this, or if you allow yourself to take the time to look around it, you’ll find that it’s nowhere near as hard to navigate as you might initially think. There are a number of tabs that take you to the different sports you want, so you can find what you need. The home page is there to show you what events are currently in play – so you can access the most popular in-play events right there and then, which is important with live betting. Then you can access the tip adviser on your betting slip, which can be found just underneath the search function.

As we said, we like to look at the entire user experience, and William Hill offers it all really. As you’ll be able to see, you can choose from thousands of betting markets and options, the tip advisor – and one of its biggest selling points in our opinion – the live streaming. So, with everything on offer, it can look crowded. However, it’s not unattractive and is a great site to use.

Everything you look for on the site is just one or two clicks away and it’s really easy to find the live and in play events as they happen.

The William Hill Sign-Up Process

  4. Make your first deposit

The William Hill Mobile App

Any good bookmaker needs a good mobile site or mobile app to compete in the industry now. William Hill has created a great mobile app for its customers to enjoy. You can download the William Hill betting app on iOS and Android from the App Store or from Google Play.

The first thing we noticed about the app was how easy it is to navigate and how user friendly the whole mobile experience is. Should you need to register on mobile, then you can do so very quickly. Once registered, you can easily find any sport that you want to bet on. The favourite sports, such as football and horse racing are at the top, then, if you click sports, you can see all the rest of the sports on offer.

Another huge bonus is the fact that you can use the William Hill live streaming service on the mobile app. Even better, is that placing bets on the site is really easy – which is the main thing. Then you can get on your betting slip which can be found on the right-hand side of the navigation bar, and place the bet.

Importantly, the mobile app is very similar to the desktop – so, if you are familiar with the desktop, the mobile shouldn’t be a problem. You can also use the same methods of payment and also contact customer service easily.  You can also access and use all of the William Hill betting offers and promotions. Sometimes there are even exclusive offers for mobile. The only negative really is that because it has so much going on, it can lag a little. If you like mobile betting, then you’ll very much like the William Hill betting app.

William Hill Casino

If you want to try something a little different for a change, then you can head over to the William Hill Casino, that is powered by Playtech. It might not be known as a casino site, but it still is rather impressive.  On the site, you can choose from all sorts of games, from the classic 3-reel slots to modern and feature-packed 5-reel video slots. You can also play on jackpot games to get the win of a lifetime. You can also enjoy a number of William Hill casino bonuses and offers to get you going on the site.

However, if you fancy more of a real casino experience, then you can try out the number of table games on offer. There are a number of variations of roulette and blackjack on offer as well as other card games.

There’s also a great live casino where you can enjoy the real casino experience. You can find a number of live dealer blackjack games, as well as European Roulette, Casino Hold’em, baccarat and even three-card poker.

The Best William Hill Casino Games

So, if you do want to try out the William Hill casino, you should check out some of its top games which include:

Age of the Gods: King of AsgardWild West WildsKingdoms Rise: Captain’s Treasure

Summary

We were really impressed with William Hill – as we knew we would be.  Not only is it a great sportsbook, but the William Hill casino is also pretty decent. We were also impressed with the William Hill sign up offer as well, which had very decent terms attached and was reasonably generous, Furthermore, we like the other bonuses on offer as well – which vary from time to time. You can often find additional William Hill promo code offers and free bets. Not only that but it had a huge number of sports and markets- as well as a great live streaming section. We were also very impressed with the 24-hour customer service and wide range of payment methods. The only small issue is the fact that they have so much of everything that it can get a little overcrowded on the site and this can also make it lag a little on the mobile app.

Overall, we were very impressed though and could see why it has stayed as popular as it has for so long!

William Hill is the biggest name out there for betting. It offers thousand of markets on a vast number of sports as well as great in-play betting and live streaming.
