US Open Golf Preview Betting, Odds & Offers

The third golf major is upon us, and the top players in the world will all head to California this weekend for what promises to be an exciting event. With the change to the calendar bringing the PGA Championship and US Open much closer, we have recent major form to go on.

The course at Pebble Beach offers a unique test and has the ability to punish a player if they struggle to drive well, find fairways and grind out a par on a tough hole. There are opportunities to score though, which will appeal to the field and the motto here needs to be when to attack and when to defend. Those who choose to do that on the correct holes over the course of the four days will be the ones in contention on Sunday evening.

When it comes to those who could win this year, previous form at Pebble Beach and recent wins could all prove to be crucial.

US Open Golf Preview

Brooks Koepka

When it comes to major golf championships, Koepka is the man of the moment. He has won four of the last eight majors which is an incredible record and that includes a win around here. He has a great confidence about his game right now, which can hardly be blamed considering how he is accustomed to turning up for the big events. That will allow him to play his natural game here, he may get into trouble, but many players will, yet he will be the one who knows of his winning record and knows he is capable of turning things around.

It is incredibly difficult to pin down a man to beat in a field like this one on a course like this, but there are many reasons why Koepka is that man if indeed there is one. He has exceptional recent major form, and with a course win under his belt, he knows what it takes to win here.

Patrick Cantlay

Cantlay is quickly rising up the rankings and showing that he is more than capable of holding his own against the big names on his day. He picked up his second tour win just a couple of weeks ago, and it seems only a matter of time before he wins a major.

He performed very well at the Masters earlier this year, and on this return home, there are few players who want to win this more than he does. His ability off the tee is a strong point in his game, and that is going to be needed here to get him off to a good start. He’s also a battler, ranking top of the list when it comes to avoiding bogeys, something else that is going to really give him an advantage here.

While this course may not be to anyone’s taste, what you have to do here is battle hard and work out when to go hard and when to play simple golf. Cantlay has demonstrated he has the quality to do that, and he looks capable of a big performance this weekend.

Dustin Johnson

Another player who would love to pick up another win in California is Dustin Johnson, who has twice won at this course including in this event. He is an adopted Californian and always looks at home playing on the coastal courses of the west side of America.

He collapsed here before, back in 2010 but since then he has been nothing short of brilliant. This season his major record is fantastic, and only two players have beaten him when you look at the combined results, which says a lot about how he comes to the fore when the big events come around.

You can never rule Johnson out in a major with the way he is playing, but that seems especially important here. Just like Cantlay, he will be looking to win this tournament, he has the game for it and arrives here with some solid major form behind him this season.

US Open Golf Betting Odds

After winning in Canada last weekend, it is no surprise to see Rory McIlroy as the joint-favourite for this event at 8/1. We all know McIlroy has the game, and he’s won this tournament before but does he has the ability and consistency to put together back to back wins.

Joining McIlroy at the top of the market is Dustin Johnson, who is also 8/1 and again, it is easy to see why. Brooks Kopeka is sure to attract interest from the betting public when you look at his major record in recent years, and he is just behind the front two in the betting at 10/1. Tiger Woods rounds off the front four in the betting at 11/1 and after this, there is a small gap to the rest of the field.

Patrick Cantlay leads the way here at 20/1, and those looking for value this weekend should take a serious look at this player, there appears to be plenty in his favour.

Elsewhere, there is sure to be some interest in the top European market, which Rory McIlroy leads at 3/1, however, there is plenty of value behind him. Jon Rahm is a very cool golfer and has the ability to plot his way around a course, and at 10/1 he could prove to be really strong value here. Those looking for someone who has been there and done it before may look towards Graeme McDowell, a previous winner here and one that suits the course, he can be backed at 16/1 in this market.
