Royal Ascot 2019 Meeting Preview & Betting Offers

The highlight of the summer flat racing season and the highlight of the entire year for many is the Royal Ascot meeting. Here we have a combination of top quality racing combined with an international flavour that brings people from all over the world both to watch and compete here. The meeting begins on Tuesday 18th June, and the five-day feast ends with the final day of racing on Saturday 22nd June.

How to Watch Royal Ascot

The great news for Racing fans in the UK is that Royal Ascot is as accessible as it has been for some years now. First of all, terrestrial television. ITV will cover the meeting in full, showing every single race from every one of the five days, giving perfect coverage from start to finish. We have no football this summer like we had to contend with last year, so no channel switching throughout the meeting, this is all on the main ITV channel, every afternoon of the meeting. Those who want an alternative look at Royal Ascot can watch on the Sky Sports Racing channel. This is formerly At The Races and picked up the rights for Ascot when they switched names this year. Expect their coverage to be on all day throughout the meeting, with plenty of preview and news shows in the morning to get you ready for the day ahead. The coverage this year is as good as it has been for a while now, making even more people excited about the action that we have coming up this week.

Royal Ascot Day One Preview

The first race of the meeting promises to be the best on day one, with some big names heading to post for the Queen Anne Stakes. A popular winner would certainly be Laurens, who ran well second behind Mustashry in the Lockinge Stakes. Those two, Le Brivido and the fascinating Barney Roy, who is back this season after failing at stud, make up what look to be an exceptional field and a great way to get things going at the meeting. The clash between Blue Point and Battaash promises to be fast in the King Stand Stakes, both have shown an exceptional level of form already in 2019. The first and second home in the Irish Guineas clash in the St James’s Palace Stakes, with Phoenix Of Spain hoping to confirm superiority over last year’s champion two-year-old Too Darn Hot. Rounding off day one, the Wolferton is only a listed race but Elarqam, Latrobe, Addeybb and Magic Wand all have respectable group form to their name.

Royal Ascot Day Two Preview

The Prince Of Wales Stakes is the big feature on day two, with an exciting field lining up for this one. Crystal Ocean, Sea Of Class, Masar and Magical all bring top quality form to the table in what looks as though it could be one of the standout Group One races of the year, let alone the meeting. Elsewhere, one of the big betting races of the meeting is the almost impossible to solve Royal Hunt Cup. Robin Of Navan has been a big talking horse before the race after his eye-catching run last time out, and you only have to look back to this time last year to see him placing in group races, so his handicap mark could well be a lenient one.

Royal Ascot Day Three Preview

Day three is all about one race and one horse and that is Stradivarius. The staying champion from last season took this race in good style at the 2018 meeting and is back to try again here. He has taken the same route, winning at York in May to get here, and will again no doubt be 100% ready for this day. His biggest danger may be Dee Ex Bee, a horse who is two out of two this season after stepping up to staying distances. Despite finishing second in a trial and sixth in the Oaks, Frankellina continues to show her greenness. She goes in the Ribblesdale Stakes and a small step forward would put her right in the picture here. The Britannia Stakes is a hugely competitive handicap but Velorum has been well touted for this. He is two from two this season and finished second behind this year’s Guineas third on his debut last season.

Royal Ascot Day Four Preview

The Coronation Stakes headlines things on Friday and here we will get another chance to see Hermosa, who has won both the English and Irish Guineas this season. She is seen by many as the Ballydoyle banker of the week and given her form this season, she looks as though she will be incredibly tough to beat here. Before that, we have another big race with the Commonwealth Cup, a sprint for three-year-olds that has a unique clash here. Jash has done nothing wrong, impressing in his races and looks to be an out and out sprinter. He goes against Ten Sovereigns, who has the class advantage and drops back to sprinting after failing to get home in the Guineas when he was sent off as the favourite. If he has the speed for sprinting then he could make up into a very useful horse this season, despite his flop in May.

Royal Ascot Day Five Preview

The Diamond Jubilee, a sprint for older horses, is the feature of the final day of the meeting and it is here where a new star could really announce himself to us. Invincible Army has been very impressive winning both of his starts this season, looking very much like a top-level performer. This is his first move into Group One company, and a win here would cement his credentials to be one of the best 6f horses in training. A race later, the Wokingham Stakes is one of the hardest races to solve of the week, and is also over six furlongs. Cape Byron won at Ascot on his last start and despite a rise in the weights, he could go close again here. He is down a furlong in trip, but with the fast pace they are going to go here, he could find himself challenging late as others tire.
