Back in the UK
This is the first time in the long history (yes – 19 years) of the show that it is being held in the UK – in a haunted Welsh castle. They certainly won’t have to worry about the Oz heat this year. This will definitely put a brand new (and a little bit exciting) spin on things.
But what to expect? Australia is full of terrifying creepy crawlies – with huge huntsman spiders being a firm favourite. However, it’s unlikely that they will show their face. However, we’re pretty sure there will be other things to make up for it… maybe a bat or two would be an exciting addition?
So, who will be facing the cold, damp, creepy crawlies and ghosties this year? And, more importantly, who do we think has the best chance of taking home the first UK title? The names have just been announced and the show is all set to start on Sunday 15th November… and will certainly brighten up those lockdown nights.
This is always a great opportunity for celebrities – ones who want to give a well-needed boost to their waning careers, those wanting (or needing) the paycheck, or simply those who want to have a go at something challenging. What’s more, because loads of top betting sites are offering great odds (and a few free bets thrown into the mix), it’s also a great opportunity for you to get into the I’m a Celebrity betting act and maybe make a few bucks. You’ll have plenty of choices for betting – overall winner, next one voted out, top male, top female – and some will even offer you the chance to bet on bushtucker trials. One thing is for sure – a fun show could get even more fun with a bit of a risk thrown in…
Previous Winners
The Pattern
So, when looking at the previous winners, we can see that there is some kind of a pattern – out of 19 previous winners, there have been mainly youngsters winning it – and reality TV stars and young soap stars tend to do well. When it first came about, there was a tendency for the older contestants to be more successful, with three 50+ winners in the first seven years. However, with the exception of a few (such as Harry Redknapp), it has become a younger person’s game. Recently, we can see that young soap stars and reality TV stars have been hugely popular… so what does that tell us about this year’s line up?
Betting on the Winner
The great thing about I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here is the number of options you have to bet on the show – with all different markets available. You could also potentially use some of the most popular betting features – with some sites even allowing you to cash out if your bet for next evictee ups their game mid-show.
Also, you will get great odds as generally, favourites change day after day. So, getting your bet in early guarantees pretty good returns, no matter who you bet on- as all are unknown quantities. The further you get into the show, the less value you get for the favourite – so get your bets in now!
I’m a Celebrity Best Betting Sites
So, having looked through all the betting sites for I’m a Celebrity, here are our top 5 – offering great odds, lots of markets and top features…
1. Shane Richie
He may not fit the bill as a youngster anymore, but he has to be a favourite. Not only was he a huge part of one of the UK’s biggest soap – EastEnders, where he played one half of one of the most popular couples ever – Alfie Moon, but he is also a huge name in the entertainment industry as a presenter, comedian and overall old school entertainer. As such, he is likely to be a hugely entertaining character in the series and will likely offer up a lot of laughs and good TV.
Richie started his career as a Red Coat in Butlins and has been amusing people ever since. He has been in films and has hosted game shows including Win Lose or Draw and Lucky Numbers. He hit the big time with his role in EastEnders, where he played Alfie Moon on and off for 17 years. He has been on and off our screen for about 30 years all in.
Despite this, he hasn’t been around much recently, with just an appearance here or there. In fact, recently, Richie declared that he’s now skint… and this could well be behind his decision to star in the show. Whatever his reasons, he is very likely to brighten up the screen and give us plenty to talk about… and maybe it will boost his career to boot. He’s definitely worth a punt.
Shane Richie Odds – 9/2 at Betfred
2. Mo Farah
This is a pretty cool addition to the troupe – and a rather unexpected one at that, as Sir Mo Farrah didn’t seem the obvious type. Now, this is an athlete at the top of his game. It’s not long since he hung up his running trainers and he’s still got that all competitive edge. So, it’s no doubt that he will be super competitive when it comes to the bushtucker trials. However, will this take away from the fun? Generally, the trials are more entertaining with terrified participants, so he may not get too many votes – and people with more votes get more airtime traditionally.
Also, we don’t know too much about his personality right now as media coverage of him as a person, has been mixed. We do like to keep an open mind though! People will have a lot of respect for the man though, and everything he has achieved in his career, so he will likely stay in for a while – although maybe not get the win.
Mo Farah to win – 7/1 at Betfred
3. Giovanna Fletcher
Giovanna Fletcher isn’t a name that I’m too familiar with. However, Giovanna Fletcher is described as an author, presenter, actress, vlogger, blogger and presenter – so quite a lot of strings to her bow apparently. She is also from Essex, so quite likely has bucket loads of personality!
She has written a number of books and sung a few duets on YouTube with her more famous other half – Tom Fletcher of McFly. Indeed, this is quite possibly her main claim to fame, unfortunately, despite being quite well accomplished herself. Giovanna may well be a bit of a surprise package and I look forward to seeing what she has to offer.
Giovanna Fletcher to win – 4/1 at Betfred
4. Jordan North
This is another name I don’t know too much about – but he’s a BBC Radio 1 presenter. Now, as radio is all about personality, this bodes well for him. Also, he’s 30 years old – so reasonably young, which is another reason he may well do a good job. As a Radio 1 presenter, he will also have a massive appeal to the younger voting audience.
This a really good opportunity for him to get an even wider audience and currently the bookies see him as one of the favourites to win the show.
Jordan North to win – 4/1 at BetVictor
5. Vernon Kay
This is a name that some of the older audiences may know as he has been out of the limelight for quite a while. Vernon Kay started his career as a model and then grew into the role of a TV presenter, where he hosted shows such as All Star Family Fortunes, 1000 Heartbeats and Splash! However, he hasn’t had a great deal of success and he’s had a number of flops and bad luck since then. To add to this, he also faced shame when he was publicly exposed sexting a Page 3 girl behind wife, Tess Daly’s, back.
This is definitely a well-needed stint for him as he could definitely do with a boost to his career which has pretty much all but dried up. The British public doesn’t generally warm to cads, but if he comes across well, with his good looks and charm, he could do well.
Vernon Kay to win – 13/2 at William Hill
The Others
So, who are the others that could well offer up a few surprises?
6. A J Pritchard –
AJ Pritchard is a well-known face on TV, especially with lovers of Strictly Come Dancing… as one of the pros on the show. He’s also probably very familiar with Vernon’s missus, Tess. This baby-faced dance lothario is no stranger to reality TV as his brother, Curtis Pritchard, was a contender on Love Island. He seems smiley and bubbly and is likely to be competitive as a pro dancer, so he could get on well
AJ Pritchard to win – 12/1 at Bet365
7. Jessica Plummer
Here’s another young soap actress that could do pretty well. EastEnders stars always tend to get quite far, so that is going in her favour. Before her role in ‘Enders, she was part of the girl band, Neon Jungle, supporting Jessie J and performing with Taylor Swift. However, this isn’t what got her name as well known. She hasn’t been a resident of Albert Square for too long. Fellow EastEnders star, Jacqueline Jossa won the show last year – can she follow in her footsteps?
Jessica Plummer to win – 14/1 at BetVictor
8. Hollie Arnold
Holly Arnold is a Paralympian, so she will have lots of strength and competitiveness. She will also be very determined and have a lot of strength when it comes to Bushtucker trials. However, she will need to earn the love of the audience, so this means showing lots of personality. How big of a persona she is will determine how well she does. Quiet people fall short and get no airtime – and no airtime means no votes. She will need to find a way to stand out to get anywhere.
Holly Arnold to win – 20/1 at William Hill
9. Beverley Callard
Liz from Corrie is definitely one of the more well-known faces on the show – and she will have plenty of Coronation Street fans backing her. However, she will need to be as bubbly as Liz to do well. Beverley Callard has struggled with issues in the past, so it will be interesting to see how well she holds up in such a unique situation. Likely, she’ll pull up her sleeves and knuckle down. However, will she have what it takes to win? Unlikely as she’s up against some big personalities.
Beverley Callard to win – 25/1 at William Hill
10. Ruthie Henshall
Ruthie Henshall is a seriously talented musical actress – and could well entertain with her theatrics. She will probably, however, be quite serious as she is someone who has worked very hard to get to her level in such a tough field. She might not get to the end, but hopefully, she will sing a few songs before she does.
Ruthie Henshall to win – 40/1 at Betfair
11. Victoria Derbyshire
Although she’s a well-known face on TV, she has a very niche audience – and not one that will necessarily watch the show. Undoubtedly, she will have a strong personality and she could be one to stir up a few confrontations, especially when hunger, tiredness and boredom kick in. I’m not sure many will warm to her and she may be one of the first out.
Victoria Derbyshire to win – 40/1 at Bet365
12. Russell Watson
Russell Watson is well known for having one of the best Tenor voices in the UK. He had a working-class background and then built a career as a singer. He knows what hardship is, as he has suffered from a brain tumour twice, which he has tackled successfully both times. He will definitely be someone that gets stuck in and will look to get everything out of this experience, so may well be a surprise package – and worth a punt. He may also throw in a duet or two with Ruthie, which would be great!
Russell Watson to win – 40/1 at Betfair
