Europa League Final Chelsea vs Arsenal Betting Preview, Odds & Offers

The first of two all-English finals in Europe takes place on Wednesday night. Chelsea and Arsenal head to Baku, in Azerbaijan, to battle it out for the Europa League trophy. Both clubs have looked very good in this competition, and clearly targeted success in it, despite having struggles from time to time in the Premier League.

Chelsea have already qualified for the Champions League next season due to their league finish but Arsenal finished outside of the qualifying spots, meaning they have a place up for grabs here. A win here and the Champions League beckons for The Gunners, while a loss means another year in the Europa League.

This is the first time we have seen such dominance from one country in Europe, with all four finalists of the two competitions coming from the same league. While we don’t see too many of the big guns dropping into the Europa League, we do have many ‘second tier’ clubs in there, and if this final shows one thing, it shows that the Premier League has great depth to it.

Chelsea – Road to the Final

Chelsea had to go all the way in their semi final to get through to this stage. They required penalties in the second leg of their tie with Frankfurt to get here, after two draws in Germany and England couldn’t separate the teams. It was Chelsea who came out on top, winning the shootout 4-3 to get through to Baku.

Prior to that, Chelsea flexed their power by comfortably beating Malmo, Dynamo Kiev and Slavia Prague to reach the semi finals. They were handed some tough away trips, but overall the draw was pretty kind to Chelsea and that has enabled them to get through to the final. They are one of the biggest and best teams to have played in this competition this season, so it should be no surprise to those watching that they have made it to Baku.

Arsenal – Road to the Final

The semi final stage was much more straight forward for Arsenal compared to Chelsea. Not only did they qualify for the final without needing penalties, but they also won both of the two legs they played against Valencia, taking a two goal lead to Spain with them, and then winning by two goals again in that game.

Prior to that, Arsenal recorded two wins over Italian club Napoli, once again showing their quality and their ability to go close in this competition. BATE Borisov and Rennes were the other two teams they beat in the knockout round to make the final and overall it was an impressive showing from The Gunners. Although Chelsea did it with ease, Arsenal certainly played the better quality opponents and deserve a lot of credit for that.

Chelsea vs Arsenal Match Preview

If you look at the Premier League standings then Chelsea are the better team, and they have qualified for the Champions League next season. They have also probably being a little more impressive than Arsenal in the Europa League to get here, although they have had an easier draw throughout the tournament which has helped them.

If you want to look at the team that has beaten the better opposition to get here then that is certainly Arsenal. Beating both Valencia and Napoli in the last two rounds, they have played and beaten much tougher teams than Chelsea have. Not only that, but they won all four individual games against those two teams, beating them both away from home.

When we reached the knockout round, both of these teams took this competition more seriously and obviously in the final they are going to field their best possible teams. One unique problem for them both here is that they haven’t been in competitive action for quite a while. The Premier League finished on May 12th, so the teams have had more than two weeks away from competitive football. Arsenal hasn’t done anything, while Chelsea has been to play a friendly in the US, which wasn’t timed well.

I don’t think there is little to choose between these two in terms of quality, and they both have match winners in their line up. Those will be important of course here, but the way that Arsenal has gone through both Valencia and Napoli cannot be ignored. They have shown real spirit and a determination to win this competition, beating some very good teams to get here. Chelsea haven’t done anything wrong, but they haven’t been tested like The Gunners, and I’ve got a feeling that Arsenal has a great chance to cause what would be seen as a small upset in Baku on Wednesday night.

Chelsea vs Arsenal Betting Odds

Chelsea is the favourite here, priced up at 4/6 to lift the trophy by any means, and available at 7/5 to win the game in 90 minutes. Arsenal is bigger, and look to be the value, available at 11/10 to lift the trophy and 2/1 to win in 90 minutes. Those who think this game could go all the way can back the 90-minute draw at 23/10.

With a cup final like this one, many people are looking for ways to have an interest bet as they watch the action, and the two most popular markets for those type of bets are the goalscorer markets and the correct score markets.

As far as goal scorers go, Eden Hazard is the favourite for Chelsea, priced at 4/1 to score the first or last, and 7/5 to score at any time in the game. For Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the favourite at 4/1 to score first or last in the game and 11/8 to score at any time.

Both teams like to score goals and attack, so hopefully, we get goals here and that makes for an entertaining final. If you think both teams will score in the game you can back that at 7/10 or you can use that to form part of your reasoning on the correct score betting market.

A Chelsea 2-1 victory can be backed at 8/1 while the same score but in the favour of Arsenal is available at 10/1. Those looking for a bigger price could go with a bigger margin, Chelsea to win 3-1 can be backed at 18/1 while an Arsenal 3-1 victory is even bigger at 25/1.
