Chelsea vs Manchester City League Cup Final Betting Preview

The league cup final takes place on Sunday afternoon at Wembley, with Chelsea taking on Manchester City for the first trophy of the season. While this is certainly seen as the least important trophy of the lot for teams, it comes at an important time for both clubs, and there is no doubt that both will be eager to lift it on Sunday.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Match Preview

Manchester City are chasing down a league title, and don’t be surprised to see them go close in other competitions too, especially the FA Cup. This is the first of four possible trophies for them, and it could be a real momentum booster just when they need it as they head into an important couple of months as we round off the season.

A win here would give City the winning feeling back that they have had so many times before, and this team is hungry for that. Parading a trophy around Wembley with their fans on Sunday will show them what it is like to win once more, and after that happens it generally pushes teams on to win further competitions. Of the four trophies on offer for them still, this is clearly the least important, but a win here could give them the final push they need to go on and win at least one more this season.

Chelsea have two possible trophies they could win this season, this and the Europa League. That is after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United on Monday night, in what was a very disappointing performance. Their season will mainly be judged on where they finish in the league, with the top four expected. However, it looks unlikely they will finish inside the top four this season, especially with how they have been playing recently.

That leaves these two cup competitions for them to rescue their season and bring a bit of pride back to the club. A win here, just as it would for City, would really boost morale in the camp, and give them that little booster required to finish the season well. Whether that is enough to get them up into the top four, or enough to get them a win in the Europa League, remains to be seen, but the feeling is that if Chelsea don’t win at least one trophy, their season will be seen as a major disappointment.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Prediction

As with most EFL cup games, if possible it is always worth waiting to place your bets after you have seen the starting line ups. I don’t think we will see too many changes here, this is a cup final, but there may be the odd one or two due to the teams involved playing a lot recently. Chelsea are the most likely to do that, they played Monday and Thursday, so this will be their third game in seven days.

Manchester City played on Wednesday night in Germany and while they had travel to deal with which Chelsea didn’t, it doesn’t take too long to get back, and they had an extra day of rest. They were also able to rest players last weekend in their FA Cup game against Newport, which will help too.

Of the two teams, coming into this one there is only one of them carrying any kind of form and that is Manchester City. Chelsea have been beaten comfortably away from Stamford Bridge by Manchester United, Bournemouth, Arsenal and of course City themselves in recent weeks, and they look a completely different outfit when not playing in front of their home fans. I don’t expect a repeat of that meeting between these two, but it was all too easy for City as they carved Chelsea open and beat them 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

We won’t see a repeat, but I do think we will see the same outcome, and that is a Manchester City win. This is the first of four potential trophies for them this season, they are a team on the up and playing well when it is required. The same cannot be said about Chelsea, and for that reason, I am more than happy to side with Manchester City here.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Betting Odds

There are two ways to place a wager on a cup final if you want a bet on who will win the game. The first is to place your bet in 90 minutes, and the second is to place a bet on who will lift the trophy. Unsurprisingly, Manchester City are strong favourites for both, they are priced up at 8/15 to win the game in 90 minutes and 2/7 to lift the trophy via any method. Those fancying an upset in the game can back Chelsea at 9/2 in 90 minutes, while lifting the trophy is available at 5/2.

When it comes to big one off games like a cup final, many people are looking to place a value single on the game for interest, so I expect to see a lot of these bets on Sunday. The goal scorer and correct score markets are always worth looking at in this instance, and these can offer good value.

Sergio Aguero is the favourite to score the first goal, priced up at 16/5 and also available at 19/20 to score at any time in the game. He is closely followed by his striking partner Gabriel Jesus, who can be backed at 4/1 to score first and 6/5 to score any time. These two may not both play though, so check the teams before betting if you can.

Those thinking Chelsea may sneak the first goal can back Eden Hazard to grab it at 15/2, or you can back him to score any time at 9/4. The favourite for Chelsea is Gonzalo Higuain and he can be backed at 7/1 to score first, or 21/10 to score any time.

If you are looking for a correct score then a 1-0 City win is the favourite at 6/1, with 2-0 and 2-1 to City as well as a 1-1 draw the next best, all available at 13/2. Those backing Chelsea to win will get far bigger odds, with 1-0 Chelsea available at 14/1 and 2-1 Chelsea slightly bigger at 16/1. If you think a repeat of the game from a couple of weeks ago is on offer, Manchester City to win 6-0 can be backed at a huge 80/1.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Betting Offers

Coral – 70/1 Acca Offer for New Customers

If you are looking to open a new account this weekend then this offer from Coral gives you the chance to back a huge enhanced acca, and it includes Manchester City to win this game. Four of the biggest names in world football are involved here, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid, and this offer gives you the chance to back them at huge odds.

The maximum stake allowed on this bet is £1, and any winnings from the bet will be paid out in free bets, which are valid for four days after receipt. If you want a big acca this weekend and you want it to include Manchester City then this is a great one to place thanks to the offer.

Boylesports – Double Winnings if a Penalty is Scored

This offer is open to new and existing Boylesports customers this weekend. If you place a bet with them, and you have a winner then they will pay you out the winnings as normal. However, if there is a penalty during the game (90 mins only) and this is converted, they will pay you out double the winnings, with the additional coming as free bets.

The maximum stake for this offer is £20 and the maximum free bet amount you will receive is £500, but we have seen penalties in big games already this season, could we see another here, and could you profit from it? This is a great offer that adds to the drama when a penalty is given if you have a bet on the game.

Betfred – Double Delight / Hat Trick Heaven on First Goal Scorers

Any cup final is always a popular game for people backing first goal scorers and I don’t expect this one will be any different. Many will be watching on TV, and this is a great bet to place if you are looking for an interest with a bit of value.

This offer from Betfred increases that value if you have a winning bet and your player goes on to score further goals in the game. If your player scores the first goal, you are paid out at the normal price. However, if they go on to score a second you will be paid out at double the odds, and if they score a third you will get treble the odds. This is open to new and existing customers of Betfred, and it is a great way to potentially get a big pay out.
