Betting on the Premier League 2020/21 – Odds, Specials, Fixtures, Start Date and More!

Not long now until Premier League season 2020/21 kicks off. Here, we tell you all you need to know about the return of the best league in the world.

Bookies Preparing for a New Season

It feels like just five minutes ago that Liverpool lifted the trophy as the winners of the 2019/20 Premier League and already they are getting set to defend the title. After a long hiatus in March, the players finally got back on the pitch on June 17 – and went full steam ahead to finish the league as quickly and fairly as possible. The managed to fit in nine matchdays in the space of just over one month and finally finished the season on July 26. The FA Cup final finished the domestic season off on August 1st.

So, when will the new season start? What does it have in store for us? Who are the top bookmakers billing as the favourites this time? Will Liverpool defend or can Man City take it back…. Or will it be someone else that will take the crown? One thing is for sure, the return will be widely celebrated by all, including all the top bookies like Bet365 and Willia m Hill. There will also be plenty of free bets on the Premier League to get us back into the swing of things.

When Does The Premier League 2020/21 Kick-Off?

On July 24, the FA confirmed that the official start date for the 2020/21 campaign would officially kick off on Saturday 12th September. However, it took a while to get to the proposed date. According to reports in papers such as the Daily Mirror, the FA originally wanted to start the season in August. This is based on the fact that England is due to play Iceland and Denmark on 5th and 8th September for the UEFA Nation’s League.

However, because of the heavy fixture load at the end of June and July, Premier League clubs were more in favour of starting the new season in September. Generally, if the season was to have been completed as normal, teams would get around 3 months off of competitive play – finishing in May and restarting in August. This time is very important for teams as they have one month pre-season training, where they hone their skills and make sure that they are completely match fit. They also take part in club friendlies to get practice in. This season, the preseason is likely to be very short, just a few weeks.

When Will the Season End?

So, the season is due to start a little later this year, but when will it end? Well, according to the official Premier League site, the season is due to end on 23rd May 2021, which means the Premier League seasons will all get back to normality.

Teams to bet on 2020/21

So, what teams will be involved in the 2020/21 Premier League season? Well, this season there will be three new teams up there with the top teams after being promoted from the Championship. We said goodbye to Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford, while welcoming Leeds, West Brom and Fulham, who won the Play-Offs against Brentford. This will make for some interesting times. Will any of them prove to have the relative success of Sheffield Utd? Will they drop straight back down like Norwich? Or will they stay up by the tips of their fingers, like Aston Villa? There will certainly be a lot going on at the top and bottom of the tables and with lots of bookmakers offering generous ante-post odds, the earlier you get in, the better your odds.

The 2020/21 Fixtures

The official fixtures were released on Thursday 20th August and make for some interesting reading. One of the biggest matches will be a baptism of fire for the newly promoted Leeds United, who will have to face the might of the current champions, Liverpool. Another massive game will be the London derby between Arsenal and newly-promoted Fulham. Another tough one for a new team to face! Chelsea will also be kicking off its season against Brighton.

However, the Manchester teams, Man U and Man City won’t be starting the season til the following week because they have recently been playing in the European tournaments – and need a little more recovery time.

Generally, because of the shorter time frame, it can make things a little tougher logistically as broadcasters need to arrange which games to cover and when – and then teams have to travel to and from the games. However, because games are currently being played behind closed doors, the issues aren’t as tricky as they could be under normal circumstances. You can watch the games live on ITV, BBC, Sky Sports or any top live streaming site.

Betting on the Premier League 2020/21

This should be interesting as there will be plenty of action and it’s coming on the back of a very strange year.

Trophy

The Premier League Champions 2020/21

It is unlikely that there will be any runaway winner this year as there will be a number of top teams looking to take the top spot. Surprisingly, most top online bookmakers, such as 888sport, don’t have Liverpool as favourites to win again. Currently, the top spot is taken by ex-champions, Man City, at odds of 21/20, with Liverpool following at 37/20. Other favourites include Manchester United at 13/1 and Chelsea at 13/1. However, it seems bookies think this may well be a two-horse race. After this, in 5th place, Arsenal comes in at a whopping 40/1 – worth a small punt if you’re a Gunners fan!

red arrowThe Relegation Race

This is a race that teams certainly won’t want to win – or come in the top three. Last season it was right to the wire, with Aston Villa and West Ham coming much too close for comfort. Luckily for them, Norwich, Watford and Bournemouth could not save themselves in time and are now languishing in the Championship. So, who is in for the running this season? Well, there are a few with their names in the hat.

Unsurprisingly, it is the newly promoted Fulham that’s favourite to go down next year, with bookmakers such as bet365 giving them odds of evens. This is followed by West Brom, which currently has odds of 11/10 – and then Aston Villa, who just scraped through this season, with odds of 7/4. Surprisingly enough, bookmakers seem to think Leeds United might do OK – not only have they put Leeds as favourites to be the best of the newly promoted clubs at 13/25, but they have odds of Leeds being relegated this season at 7/2, which means that currently, bookies think it’s more likely that teams such as Crystal Palace, Brighton, Newcastle and Burnley will face the drop.

silverstarSpecials

The beginning of the season is the best time to see what specials are happening. So, you could look at who you think will be the first Premier Manager to leave as the season starts. Current favourite at the moment is Steve Bruce at 5/1, followed by Sean Dyche at 7/1, both from Betiton. But, as we all know, this is a very interesting market and anything could happen. A bad start from one of the top teams could see heads rolling quickly.

If you want to try something a little riskier but more rewarding than Premier League winner – then you could try a combo bet of Premier League winner with Top Goalscorer. Currently favourite for this one is Man City with Sergio Aguero at 10/1, but this is followed closely behind by Liverpool and Mo Salah at 12/1. Want a mix and match? Try a Man City win with Harry Kane as Top Goal scorer and you can get odds of 12/1… all at 888sport.

If you’re looking at Top Goal Scorer market then it’s an interesting one. Aubameyang is currently favourite at 5/1 alongside Kane at 10bet. This is followed by Aguero and Salah, both at 6/1. Surprisingly, Mane isn’t near the top, and is worth a punt at 14/1.
