Premier League Darts Week Seven Betting Tips, Preview and Betting Offers

After six thrilling weeks in the UK, the darts Premier League heads out into Europe, with a stop off in Germany on Thursday night. Five games are on the schedule and all of them look to be close ones. In particular, the home fans will be looking out for Max Hopp, who is this week’s wildcard and takes on the struggling Raymond Van Barneveld, with a great opportunity to beat him and cause an upset.

Gerwyn Price vs Rob Cross

Rob Cross is playing some fantastic darts right now and is currently second behind Michael Van Gerwen in the standings. He comes here on the back of three wins, and while this kind of competition suits him, it certainly doesn’t look as though it suits his opponent in this one, Gerwyn Price. The Welshman has struggled in recent weeks and comes here with just one win from his last four games.

Price has been clinging on for draws though, and of his six games, he has drawn three of them, with his first defeat in the tournament coming last week to Van Gerwyn. There looks to be little to split between these two, but you have to give the edge to Rob Cross based on his recent performances, he looks up for this and a place in the final would be no surprise at all.

In the opening match of the night, expect a close game but I am just siding with Rob Cross to take the points.

James Wade vs Peter Wright

A game between two very experienced players who on their day can be as good as anyone else in the world. There really is little to choose between these two, and knowing the darts that they can both play, this is going to come down to who can handle the game on the night.

Both players have made good starts to the league this season, and are in the playoff positions right now. They both come here with seven points, although Wade has won three and drawn one to get his, while Wright has won two and drawn three. That draw number will be a slight worry for Wright, and he comes here on the back of a draw with Daryl Gurney last week. He has to find a way to get rid of those and turn them into wins if he wants to make a serious effort to win this tournament.

You can toss a coin here, there is nothing to choose between them but with Peter Wright’s draw record so far, the value may be to go for a stalemate in this one, so that is where I will go.

Michael Van Gerwen vs Daryl Gurney

Before his game last week, Michael Van Gerwen had gone two weeks without a win in this competition. That is normal for most players, but not MVG, who is by far and away the best player we have right now. He may have felt the pressure to succeed, and he certainly came out and gave us a show last weekend, beating Gerwyn Price with ease 7-2 to remind us all just how good he is.

Daryl Gurney has not started off in the best of form so far, and he comes here on the back of two defeats and a draw from his last three games. His draw was a thriller against Peter Wright, but you have to be in far better form than that if you want to trouble Van Gerwen when he is on form. This looks as though it could be a very tough night for Gurney, unless he can respond to the fact that everyone expects him to lose this one, giving him the freedom to play without fear.

I can’t see that happening myself though, this should be another comfortable night for Michael Van Gerwen.

Michael Smith vs Mensur Suljovic

After Smith showed how good he was at the World Championships over the festive period by reaching the final, many people expected him to go on from that and have a really good tournament here. However, so far we haven’t really seen him fire on all cylinders, he has threatened to do so, but we need to see more if he is to be a genuine contender for this title.

He comes here down in 7th position, one point and one place behind Suljovic, who like Smith is struggling to get any momentum to his game. Both players have won just two of their opening six games and if they want to make the cut and make it through, they need to be playing better than that.

If both play at their best then I think Smith is the better player, so let’s hope he shows up and reminds us all of why we were heaping praise on him during the World Championships by winning this game.

Max Hopp vs Raymond Van Barneveld

The final game of the night is the one that German fans will be looking forward to the most as their top player goes head to head against Barney. Hopp is one of the weekly wildcard entries that are collectively taking the place of Gary Anderson, and thanks to the recent poor form from Barney, he has a great chance of registering a win here.

Van Barneveld is currently bottom of the Premier League table, and without a win from his first six games. He comes here on the back of three defeats in a row, and although we have seen a steady decline from him for the past couple of years, that is really beginning to show now.

It would be an upset for Hopp to win this based on the rankings of the two players, but with Barney playing so poorly right now, it probably isn’t as big a shock as you would expect. The German should be up for this one in front of his home crowd, and I fancy him for the win.

Premier League Darts Betting Odds

The big story of the night would be a win for Max Hopp against Raymond Van Barneveld and the bookmakers cannot split them. They have priced them both up at 11/8, with the draw at 3/1. It is no surprise to see Michael Van Gerwen installed as the only odds on favourite of the night, and he is as short as 1/4 to beat the struggling Daryl Gurney.

The other three games on the night are all too close to call, with both players evenly matched in terms of prices from the bookmakers. Rob Cross is the slight 5/4 favourite to beat Gerwyn Price in the opener, and with both players at 6/4 in the game between Peter Wright and James Wade, the value in that one could be the draw, which is available at 3/1. Michael Smith is the favourite to win his game with Mensur Suljovic, and you can get 11/10 on a Smith victory in that.

Premier League Darts Tips

  • Rob Cross to beat Gerwyn Price
  • Peter Wright and James Wade to draw
  • Michael Van Gerwyn to beat Daryl Gurney
  • Michael Smith to beat Mensur Suljovic
  • Max Hopp to beat Raymond Van Barneveld
