Premier League Betting Tips 1st & 2nd of September

This weekend sees the fourth round of Premier League fixtures and clubs at the top of bottom of the league will be hoping to either continue their good form or change their fortunes. We have seen a mixed bag from the top of the league so far, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea all starting well. However, Manchester City surprisingly dropped points last weekend, Manchester United have won just one of their opening three and Arsenal have done the same.

Of those who were expected to figure at the bottom of the league, the biggest surprise so far has been Watford, who sit up at the top with three wins from three games. However it hasn’t been a dream start for Huddersfield and Cardiff, the favourites for relegation, they are both yet to win, Huddersfield have one point while Cardiff have two.

Perhaps the biggest talking point so far has been Manchester United and the problems they are having on and off the field. It seems that boss Jose Mourinho, the board and the fans are all on different pages right now, and things are clearly not going to plan. The lack of a centre-half has frustrated both Mourinho and the fans, but the board have given him money to spend, is it their fault that he has chosen to spend it elsewhere? Whatever the outcome, it is going to be fascinating to watch United over the coming weeks to see how they get on.

Onto the weekend’s action and here we take a look at the live games on TV this weekend as well as the latest betting for the games and a couple of betting offers that look well worth taking advantage of if you are having a punt.

Televised Premier League Games

Leicester vs Liverpool – Saturday 12:30, Sky Sports Premier League

This could well be the game of the weekend for me, with both teams starting the season well and perhaps more importantly, both teams are showing good attacking intent. I expect we will see goals, and the game looks to me like it will be closer than the bookmakers think, they have Liverpool as long odds-on favourites but I don’t see them winning this comfortably.

That isn’t to say they won’t win, but I certainly wouldn’t be backing them at the price they are. Leicester have won two of their three games so far, with a loss away at Old Trafford in their first game the only defeat for The Foxes. Liverpool have gone better though and won every game so far, and they top the league on goal difference. One criticism of Liverpool last year was their defensive play, but they are yet to concede, something that could be the difference between them challenging for the title or not so it will be interesting to see how they go against an attacking Leicester side.

Liverpool are the favourites and rightfully so, but this will be much closer than the odds suggest. A bet on the number of goals in this game or both teams to score may be the best way forward.

Manchester City vs Newcastle – Saturday 17:30, BT Sport 1

Manchester City suffered a surprising setback last weekend, dropping points in a draw away to Wolves. While that is not a disastrous start, I expect them to come out here and want to put things right in front of their home fans. They are incredibly tough to beat anyway, but with an additional incentive, they could run away with this one.

Newcastle are having a tough time of things off the field, with frictions between the fans and the board over what has been spent this summer. They haven’t started well on the field either, with two losses and a draw from their opening three games and clearly a lot left to work on if they want to keep away from the relegation battle last in the year. There is a lot going off at this club right now, and to see them easily beaten would not be a surprise.

Manchester City are long odds on and they should win this game with ease. They are sure to be the centrepiece of many accumulators this weekend, and those looking for value may be looking at the handicap lines where City give Newcastle a head start.

Cardiff vs Arsenal – Sunday 13:30, Sky Sports Premier League

From what we have seen so far from Cardiff, they are going to make themselves very difficult to play against this season. They are going to try and win points the hard way, without being flashy and attacking, instead relying on a strong defensive performance and nicking the odd goal here and there. That may work against some of the lower teams in the league, but against one of the top teams, they could be in for a tricky game.

Arsenal put their first win on the board last weekend, and I expect to see them kick on from that and register more points. They may struggle to break into the top four this season, but their squad is far better than anything that Cardiff can put on the field, and they will be expected to beat the teams fighting against relegation.

Cardiff will do their best to frustrate, but ultimately the quality that Arsenal have will eventually show and I am backing them to win this game.

Watford vs Tottenham – Sunday 16:00, Sky Sports Premier League

Not many would have predicted that these two would be sat at the top of the league with three wins out of three at this stage. Watford were expected to fight against relegation this season, but so far what we have seen from them shows they are a class above those fighting at the bottom. Can they keep this up? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, they are picking up important points right now and building a lead over those at the bottom.

Spurs come here on the back of a fantastic 3-0 victory away at Old Trafford and they will be looking to keep their run going. Much has been said about them not signing anyone this summer, but one advantage that brings is that all the players know each other and they have played together before. They have used this advantage well so far, and I expect the same again on Sunday.

Watford deserves a ton of credit so far, but Tottenham are a class above and that will show here, giving them their fourth win in a row.

Premier League Betting Odds

In the opening game of the weekend, Liverpool look very short at 4/9 away at Leicester. Having said that, they will still be popular I am sure, and feature in many accumulators this weekend. They are not as short as Manchester City though, who are 1/12 at home to Newcastle in the evening kick off. Those searching for value will want to look at the alternative markets on offer for that game. Onto Sunday and the two North London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham are favourites for their games. Arsenal are 8/15 for their trip to Cardiff, while Tottenham are 8/13 away at Watford.

Back to Saturday and Chelsea at 2/7 at home to Bournemouth and Everton at 1/2 at home to Huddersfield are likely to form many accumulators and both of them look rock solid. Saturday value seekers may look towards Wolves at 9/5 who are away to struggling West Ham.

The other game to speak about comes on Sunday when Manchester United travel to their local rivals, Burnley. United are struggling right now, but are odds-on at 13/20 to win the game. If you think United’s bad spell will continue, Burnley can be backed at a big price, they are 9/2 to win the game.

Premier League Betting Offers

Leicester vs Liverpool – Liverpool to win 28/1 with Ladbrokes

Those fancying Liverpool to win the early kick-off on Saturday may want to look at this offer from Ladbrokes. They are offering 28/1 to new customers for Liverpool to win the game, which offers far better value than the 4/9 that is generally available elsewhere. The bet is valid to a maximum stake of £1 at the enhanced price, and winnings will be paid out to you in free bets.

This is a huge price, so if you fancy Liverpool and you are looking for a new betting account then be sure to combine the two with this offer.

Manchester City vs Newcastle – Manchester City to win 28/1 with Coral

If you ask fans what the banker of the weekend is, they are more than likely to tell you it is Manchester City at home to Newcastle. If you think this is correct then this offer from Coral is really going to appeal to you. They are offering new customers the chance to back City to win the game at a huge 28/1, far bigger than the 1/12 that is on offer generally. The bet is valid to a maximum stake of £1 at the enhanced price, and any winnings are paid in free bets.

If you think City are going to win this with ease, which they should, and you want to open a new account with Coral then this offer is a great way to start your betting with them.
