Betting on the Autumn Nations Cup

The cup started back in November, and some seriously good rugby has been seen since. It has been a very tough time for sport – including rugby, and with the November tours of the Southern Hemisphere being cancelled due to the pandemic, this has taken its place.

The competition consists of eight different teams:

  • England
  • Ireland
  • France
  • Wales
  • Italy
  • Fiji
  • Georgia
  • Scotland

Going into the tournament, England was seen as the strong favourites and all rugby betting sites gave odds reflecting this. Now, it’s the finals weekend and the feeling is just the same. England and France will be battling it out to take the win and the bookies fall heavily on the side of the home team.

However, it’s not just England v France to bet on – or the outright winner – there are the other exciting matches you can still place your money on, if you want to enjoy a whole weekend of top rugby betting and excitement.

This weekend, the matches are:

Autumn Nations Cup Betting Analysis

England has stormed to victories in the recent matches and have won all of their matches in the run-up – and convincingly so. The first match against Wales was a little tighter than they would have wanted at 33-30. However, when they faced off again, it was more convincing, beating the Welsh 24 points to 13. Other teams have seen even tougher defeats, with England clocking up a 34-5 win against Italy, beating Georgia 40-0 and Ireland 18-7.  This is a team that is one of the best in the world and came second in the World Cup just last year. They have beaten the best to be the best, and the team will be looking forward to living up to the hype and becoming the Autumn  Nations Cup champions.

France has also had a great tournament and they will be hoping that they will be able to defy the odds and take the win. They have had some convincing wins in the tournament, beating Italy 36-5, Scotland 22-15, Ireland 35-27and Wales 38-21. However, they did have a hiccup when they first played Scotland, losing 28-17. This shows that there are weaknesses on the French team – and weaknesses that the English will be quick to exploit. Undoubtedly, this is a great team and one that you certainly can’t write off as there can always be a shock win. However, they will definitely have a hard time against England.

In the history of the game, they have come face to face a total of 106 times. 58 times England have won, 41 times France have claimed history and there have been 7 draws. However, France did manage a win against England in the Six Nations in February 2020, getting a 24-17 victory. Although most money will go on the English, you could get very good odds for betting on the underdogs – and they have a reasonably decent chance of victory.

Autumn Nations Cup- What Will Happen?

Well, this is a tough one – and England is the outright favourites, for a reason. This won’t be as straightforward as betting on England to win as there are no values in the bet. To get value, it’s often a good idea to employ a Rugby betting strategy. As such, we’d look to a different market. Our bet of choice would be:

England to win both halves of the match – Best Odds 8/15 at Betfair

However, if you are looking to have a bit of a risk when placing your bet, then you could always bet on first try scorer. The favourite is currently Jonny May at 6/1 at Betfair, which is great odds. However, if you think France will score first then Baptiste Serin is the running for a whopping 33/1 at Betfair, which is worth a small bet.

When betting on the other matches, then we would recommend the following bets:

Ireland to win both halves – Best odds 8/11 at Betfair

Wales to win both halves – Best odds 7/2 at BetVictor

This will be an amazing weekend of rugby for fans and definitely one to look forward to!
