Smarkets

Smarkets was initially started up by two Americans, named Hunter Morris and Jason Trost, back in 2008. Nowadays they have offices scattered all over Europe including London and Malta and are one of the more famous betting sites that use peer-to-peer betting methods, instead of the traditional “against a bookie”.

It was reported that back in 2015 Smarkets had seen more than £1billion bets through their website and in just less than a year later that had tripled to the sum of £3billion, meaning that business was incredibly lucrative.

Website – Layout & Interface:

Smarkets have gone with a slightly unusual layout that you would typically expect to see and it’s quite refreshing to see, to say the least. They have gone with a unique colour scheme that features a mint green header at the top of the page and a dark green menu and header that engulfs their sport markets and the header in the centre of the page.

At the very top of the page, in the left-hand corner, is where you can find Smarkets logo and branding and just on the right is a search bar allowing you to quickly navigate around their products.

On the left of the homepage is where you will locate all of the available sports that are provided by Smarkets and on the opposite side of the page is the section where customers will allow you to sign up, or if you already have an account, you can login.

Underneath the login/signup section is a popular events section where you can keep up to date on some of the more high profile sports and markets that are happening live or upcoming.

Markets:

Smarkets has a limited amount of sports but there is still enough there to even occupy the more hard-core players time. Sports such as Football, Tennis, Basketball, Politics, Rugby, Motor Sports, Ice Hockey, Golf, Cricket, Boxing, Baseball and Horse Racing can all be found at Smarkets and have some pretty good markets for them.

Regarding betting markets, it’s clear that Smarkets have the consumer at the forefront of their minds because there are plenty of things to bet on. Football in particular has everything from Result, Half-Time/Full-Time, Draw No Bet, Correct Score, Both Teams to Score, Winner and Both Teams to Score, Score in Both Halves, Half-Time Result, Half-Time Score, Asian Handicap, First Goal scorer and loads of others.

Welcome Bonus & Promotions:

The welcome bonus at Smarkets comes in the shape of a £10 free bet, to become eligible for this all you need to do is create your own account and then deposit a minimum of £20 and Smarkets will then credit your account with your free bet. Unfortunately, they don’t have any other ongoing promotions at this current time and this is definitely something that we suspect Smarkets will be looking at introducing in the near future.

In-Play Betting:

You can head over to the in-play section, which is on the left hand side of their homepage, above their list of sports. From here you will be presented with the Smarkets’ in-play betting console which conforms to the elegance of the rest of their website as well as behaving like how a premium in-play console should do. Sports like Football, Basketball, Baseball, Cricket, Golf and Motorsports are all included and depending on when you check they could certainly have more in store for you.

Their in-play console is structured a little differently, though, and basically allows you to make bets that are more directed towards the season overall instead of individual to a single match or competition.

Mobile & Tablet:

For players who love the best of online sports betting but don’t like to be confined to a desktop, Smarkets have come up with an answer in the form of their dedicated mobile betting application. This can be downloaded from the Apple app store or directly from the website, depending on whether you use IOS or Android.

If you don’t like the idea of downloading software, there is no issues there because Smarkets have optimised their website which will give you the best of both worlds. You will have all of the fantastic markets and sports that can be found on the desktop version as well as the classy appearance of the map, that can be accessed right from your mobile browser.

Payment Methods:

Customers can use various ways to both credit and withdraw funds from their Smarkets account. Accepted methods consist of Visa, Maestro, MasterCard, Neteller, Bank Transfer and Skrill, which is great to see some e-wallets thrown in there.

Depending on which method you choose is going to affect how long it takes before you receive any winnings. Cards and traditional banking methods take the longest and you could find yourself waiting 3-5 business days before you are in possession of the funds. This is opposed to the 24 hour wait before you receive the money via e-wallets.

Customer Support:

The support team at Smarkets work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide some of the most knowledgeable help in the industry. You can contact a member of the customer support team in a few different ways, including by email, twitter, live chat, telephone and via post. Their live chat is the best method to get a fast response and it also saves you waiting around with a phone pressed by your ear.

Conclusion:

It’s always nice to see a company take a different approach to online sports betting and there is no exception when it comes to addressing what Smarkets are doing right now. They have a very accomplished sportsbook that is brimming with sports and markets and we were particularly impressed with their football free bets markets. We would, however, like to see them add more promotions somewhere along the way because after you have used up your welcome bonus, there is practically no other free stuff up for grabs.

It’s always nice to see a mobile application that is ready for customers to take advantage of, this and their 24 hour support team is the reason we are ranking them so highly.
